Application Process

Effective February 1, 2014: We will be charging a $10 fee for all volunteers submitting their volunteer application. Community Storehouse serves children in our area and with volunteers interacting at different levels with these children it is in the best interest of all parties that a background is completed before volunteer hours begin. We sincerely hope everyone understands that this fee is only being charged to cover the cost of the background check.

Thank you for considering volunteering with us!

You are so close to helping the children of our community stay in school. Here are your next steps:

  1. Review the Volunteer Handbook
  2. Complete the Volunteer Application and Background Verification Release Form
  3. Attend a one-hour Volunteer Orientation Session

Volunteer Orientation is on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at 6:00pm. Currently, orientation is held at our resale store, Hope’s Closet located at 5601 Basswood Blvd. At the orientation, you will learn about all  the roles you can take in our resale operations, our Food Pantry, our events and our children’s programs during the summer.

Children, age 10-13, may volunteer with their parent and children age 14 and up, may volunteer on their own. Children, 10 years of age and older, are required to complete the entire application process. Children 13 years and older, must complete a background verification form.

People who would like to volunteer in a group must first contact our Volunteer Coordinator at 817-431-3340 or by email.

Youth volunteers participate in supervised service learning.

Youth volunteers with Community Storehouse can gain valuable service-learning experience which develops leadership and transferable work skills. Working in a safe, supervised environment, they can also gain service hours toward college course requirements, High School Green Cord Recognition (100 hours of service annually), Eagle Scout Award project completion, National Honor Society requirements, Student Council requirements and more.

Court-Required Community Service

Volunteering with Community Storehouse can fulfill community-service requirements mandated by teen or adult courts for minor traffic and curfew violations only. Our policies do not allow us to fulfill community-service requirements for other offenses. Prior approval from the Volunteer Coordinator is required.
