“I have the perfect job,” says Susan Thompson, Community Relations Coordinator with EnCana Oil & Gas (USA). “I work with a wonderful organization which has a commitment to the communities where we operate. My department has the privilege of working with some of the best community organizations in Texas. Community Storehouse is one of these. And I get to do the fun part – give checks to these organizations!”
Susan started talking with Barbara Board two years ago. The EnCana field office in Bridgeport had entered the annual Run in the Dark and several EnCana employees participated. The focus of Community Storehouse -- the health and well-being of children and their families -- was something EnCana wanted to support. “We were impressed with how Community Storehouse really makes a difference in people’s lives,” says Susan. “The staff at Community Storehouse are always a pleasure. They work hard, but they seem to have fun and enjoy what they’re doing.”
With a 25-year background in marketing, Susan was new to Community Relations when she joined EnCana three years ago. “In marketing, we were always spending money to increase revenue. Community Relations is a much ‘softer” area. We work with community residents where we drill to lesson the impact of operations. We partner with non-profit organizations. We raise money for charities. We promote local education initiatives. There’s always something new or interesting that happens.”
